Montag's reaction was sad, surprised, and regretful. My reaction to his reaction is shocked, feeling bad, and also acceptive. It alligns with my living situation with divorced parents, moving from one parent to the other and moving schools and finding new friends. Leaving it all behind was hard to deal with and happened so fast, I was bum and felt bad for not letting friends know I left.
